A small portrait, engraved quickly, of a man with a poor appearance, a slightly haggard eye, bushy hair and a scraggly moustache (Clément-Janin).
Only state, 33 mm × 42 mm.

Printed on hollande by Delâtre for Diétrich. According to Grignard, it is the portrait of Brouet's cleaning man. It could also be a portrait of the artist's father, who would have ended his life in a bohemian mess, a portrait made from memory (Clément-Janin in Print Connoisseur, vol. V n°1, 1925). Finally, we note the resemblance with the photographs of August Spies, an anarchist of German origin implicated and convicted in the Haymarket affair in Chicago in 1886.
