The Small Shoemaker

etching (1920)
Through the entrance of the shop we see an old woman bringing a boot to be repaired to the cobbler. With his black hair in disarray and his head turned towards the visitor, the butcher looks with obvious disdain at the work being brought to him. At the threshold a little girl plays.
