The Franconi Circus

etching (1920)
It is night time. Around a table a group of about fifteen gypsies are sitting in various attitudes: one has a musical instrument, another is annoying a monkey... A single lamp illuminates them from above. On the left, near a fire kindled by a woman, in the half-light, three people are sitting. A caravan is barely distinguishable in the darkness of the background.
